Socials Bring Customers, Websites Make Sales

Have you been scrolling through socials, found a great post that interested you, but when you click on the business’s website you no longer want it? Having great social media posts is important. However, if your website turns people away, what even is the point? It’s like hosting a party without refreshments or entertainment. People show up, but they have no reason to stay.

Start with the Statistics

Every business choice needs to have a legitimate reason as to why we’re making this decision, so let’s first talk about proof that social media drives people to your website, but your website might be driving people away. 75% of users judge a business’s credibility on their website’s overall design.

81% of people visit business websites via social media links according to an article by Kobe Digital. That number is way too high to ignore social media altogether. Of those 81% of people, there is an average 54% bounce rate (Twaino). This is partially because people want to just get back to social media, but it also could be your website doesn’t match your social media’s vibe, is too hard to navigate, or just not aesthetically pleasing.

Let’s break these down.

1. Your Social Media Doesn’t Match Your Website

It’s great to have aesthetically pleasing social media, that’s the best way to get people engaged. Whether it’s purely pretty or a specific wow factor, if they come to your website and it’s missing that, they’re going to leave.

Make sure that the colors, fonts, and photos you’re primarily using on your socials match your website. Keeping a solid brand identity allows people to trust your website. If you’re putting out misleading or mismatching information on your social media, the website won’t close the deal. Learn more at MGB2B’s article here.

2. Your Website Just Doesn’t Look Nice

People are extremely superficial. It has been shown that 40% of customers leave unattractive websites. Users tend to mistrust websites that are too bare, have unappealing aesthetics, or have poor layout. It doesn’t hurt to ask people about your website, what they like or don’t like, and what they think you can improve upon.

Attractive websites lead to more sales. Well-designed websites overall have a 300% higher conversion rate than poorly designed sites.

3. Too Hard to Navigate

We’ve discussed hard navigation in a few other blog posts at Perodigm before, but it still applies here. Specific to social media though is where users get dropped on your website. Are they being taken to a specific event page, or the home page?

If they get dropped on a page that doesn’t match with what they clicked, they’re more likely to just leave. Also, if they get dropped on a landing page without any clear way to complete the actions they wanted to, like shop or learn more, then they have no reason to stay. Make sure they are lead to a space on your website they can easily navigate from.

Conclusion

If your social media doesn't match your website, your sales could be suffering. If your website isn't aesthetically pleasing, your sales could be suffering. If your brand identity isn't strong throughout your marketing, your sales could be suffering.
