Level Up Your Website

Technology continues to exponentially grow and change. Included in that, comes website design. With website builder platforms growing their capabilities to outcompete each other, there are new ways becoming more accessible to everyone to take their website from decent to outstanding.

Website design is heavily influenced by graphic design trends, but also goes off on it’s own side tangent since the digital realm has less boundaries holding you down. The idea of breaking boundaries for websites, is becoming increasingly common. How can we make this website 3D? How can we change the gravity and flow of it? The future of websites is here.

1. Dark Mode

Just as we predicted in our 2025 Marketing and Design Trends, dark mode is here to stay in a big way. We’re not talking about a stereotypical dark mode, with pure white font on pure black backgrounds though. That stark of a contrast is out, but off-whites on off-blacks or deeply saturated colors is the dark mode that’s in right now. In fact, this dark mode aesthetic goes hand-in-hand with the futuristic aesthetic, and glowing effects trends that are also trending right now.

2. Futuristic, Sci-Fi Gaming UI Aesthetics

Websites that look like they belong in sci-fi movies or video games are hitting the scene in a big way. Pulling on gaming UI aesthetics similar to the video game Destiny, we’re seeing scroll-on text, backgrounds working separately from text, and slimming sleek icons being utilized. The time to start learning how to add holographic and 3D elements into your website is here.

3. Strange Scrolling Techniques

The rules of how scrolling through a website are being broken, crumpled up, and thrown away. Scroll-on animation has become extremely common, adding some movement as users work their way through websites. What’s becoming more common is changing how scrolling affects the page; it’s not just up and down anymore. To reduce on vertical space on websites, horizontal scrolling is becoming more common - especially when wanting to show timelines.

This type of parallax scrolling has been around, just not commonly used. However, it’s being pushed even further by scrolling through z-index - meaning we’re entering actual 3D territory of moving frontward and backward instead of up and down. A great example of all the parallax scrolling possibilities is shown in this Webflow website about The Goonies.

4. Glow Effects

Making website components glow is taking over, especially in the technology field. Whether it’s turning buttons into neon signs, or a simple glowing background gradient, adding some type of glow effect to websites adds a futuristic and modern touch. There are a ton of possibilities to add some type of glow effect, though it often shows up best if your website is set up in infinite dark mode.

5. Vivid Colors

This trend has been more common in the last few years in overall design, but is starting to be an automatic go to for a lot of designers. We’re seeing color palettes that make your eyes vibrate with color all over. Not everything has to be plain and simple. Using complementary colors, that aren’t your typical ROYGBIV, is coming out. Check out this website for Delassus Group to see a great example of vivid colors.

Conclusion

All in all, web design continues to change and modernize. Making sure that your website is on top of it helps you stay relevant on the internet. If you want to see one website that has every single trend wrapped up in one website, check out Sopra Banking Software, you won't be disappointed.
